Long-time fleet manager Bob Stanton announced his retirement from the City of San Antonio effective July. At the City of San Antonio, Stanton was the assistant director - building and equipment services – Fleet. He was responsible for vehicle and equipment maintenance for 4,700 units, vehicle acquisition, and fuel management.

Prior to this, Stanton was director of fleet management for the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioner in Florida. In this position, Stanton was responsible for the acquisition, maintenance, and disposal of a mixed fleet of government service vehicles and equipment numbering 3,500 units. Also had responsibility for the County's bulk fueling network of fuel sites and fuel delivery vehicles.

Earlier, Stanton was director of fleet management for Polk County Board of County Commissioners, a position he held for 19 years. He joined Polk County in 1992 and held director-level management responsibility for a fleet of 2,500-plus vehicles and equipment ranging from Class 1 through Class 8 on-highway units, along with 300-plus pieces of heavy equipment. The Polk County fleet operation included one main garage and 12 satellites. Stanton was also responsible for 12 bulk fueling sites and maintenance responsibility for 200-plus standby generators. His position also included maintenance responsibility for the city fleets of Lake Wales and Auburndale. While at Polk County, the fleet was recognized in 2010 as the No. 3 government fleet nationwide in the 100 Best Fleets competition. Stanton left Polk County in September 2011.

Before entering public sector fleet management, Stanton was city manager for UPS Truck Leasing from August 1988 to November 1992. At UPS Truck Leasing, Stanton had profit center general management responsibility for the Tampa, Fla., branch, which included satellite facilities in Lakeland and St. Petersburg. He was responsible for sales, operations, and maintenance. The UPS Truck Leasing Tampa branch generated $10 million in annual revenue through long-term truck leasing contracts, daily rentals, and repair services. His other responsibilities included contract negotiation, personnel management and development, sales and profit growth, and operations management.

Stanton began his fleet management career in 1978, as director of fleet administration for PepsiCo, a position he held until 1982.

Stanton is a past member of the Ford Fleet Advisory Board, serving from March 2009 to March 2013.
