Three public fleet industry veterans were honored at the 2020 Government Fleet Virtual Award Ceremony June 16. The newest members of the Public Fleet Hall of Fame were recognized and invited to share their knowledge with the audience at The Honors Celebration on Tuesday afternoon.

The Public Fleet Hall of Fame is comprised of industry leaders and pioneers who have significantly contributed to the public fleet profession, as chosen by members of the industry via online voting. The award is sponsored by Sourcewell.

This year's inductees are:

  • Liz Gray, fleet analyst, Collin County, Texas - Years in fleet: 33

  • Bruce Halliday, fleet manager, City of Rochester Hills, Mich. - Years in fleet: 39

  • Jeffrey Tews, CPFP, fleet services manager, City of Milwaukee - Years in fleet: 42

Each new inductee was given time to share remarks with the audience. All made sure to thank those who got them where they are today. Gray, who could not attend, prepared a statement in which she talked about how challenging and fun it has been to keep up "with technology, environmental requirements, new engines, police vehicles, and heavy equipment features that are always changing and force us to continually re-think and re-envision what is best for our fleets."

Halliday, who retired in the first week of June 2020, gave thanks to Government Fleet, the American Public Works Assocaition, and other public fleet resources that have provided him with the opportunity to network, share ideas, and address common conerns, and encouraged fleet professionals to develop relationships with their local counterparts. "These relationships have had a profound effect on my career in fleet management."

Tews said, "We all share a passion for the things we do for public service...we've had tough, sometimes thankless, jobs, and the challenges are many; but so are the rewards. We are resourceful and resilient, rising up to meet current challenges posed by COVID-19."

Since its establishment in 2014, Government Fleet has inducted 34 fleet industry veterans into the Public Fleet Hall of Fame. View a full list of members here.
