CHATTANOOGA, TN - About three-fourths of City of Chattanooga police officers chose to park their vehicles at the police station rather than drive them home in response to new take-home fees that were implemented at the beginning of 2011, according to The Chattanoogan.
A representative for the mayor said he believed many vehicles were parked out of protest of the fee. He expects many officers to reverse their decision.
With approximately 260 officers parking their vehicles, there were some worries about the availability of parking spaces. There are more than 200 spaces at the Police Services Center, and the mayor said there are two additional lots available for parking, according to the newspaper.
The City is charging officers who live within City limits 20 cents per mile for driving to and from work and 30 cents per mile for those who live outside the City.
