The City of Pittsburgh is expanding its electric vehicle (EV) charging options with the addition of five transportable solar-powered EV charging stations. The EV ARCs from Envision Solar International will be used to charge the fleet’s 10 EVs, according to the company.
The city plans to expand its EV fleet and intends to transition to 100% renewable energy by 2035.

The contract awarded to Envision came as a result of a competitive RFP process. The stations do not require permits, civil engineering or planning, foundations, trenching, or electrical connections. Each EV ARC can deliver up to 225 e-miles daily and can charge up to six EVs at one time, according to the company website.
Other fleets that have deployed or are deploying the EV chargers include Oakland, Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, Sacramento, Santa Monica, Santa Cruz, Indio, and Maywood in California; New York; and Boulder, Colo.
HDOT, community leaders and project partners recently participated in a commissioning and blessing ceremony celebrating the opening of the new charging site.
