The Pike County (Ohio) Sheriff's Office has purchased a fleet of all-wheel-drive patrol vehicles to replace aging cruisers that have been removed from service and sold at auction, reports the News Watchman.

The agency chose all-wheel-drive cruisers to help deputies reach remote rural locations, said Sheriff Charles Reader. Several of the new vehicles were used vehicles purchased from local dealerships.

The new vehicles will replace 19 cruisers and fleet vehicles that have been taken out of service and sold at auction. The agency sells the vehicles at a sherff's auction, and local residents often buy them to use as personal vehicles.
