The New York City Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS) has reported record revenue from its fleet in FY-2018, bringing in $11.65 million thanks to a series of initiatives aimed at improving fleet efficiency. This is $3 million more revenue than the previous fiscal year and $1 million more the previous best year.
According to the city’s fleet newsletter, the city achieved its best year ever in auctions and claims (when city vehicles are damaged by private cars), bringing in the best per-vehicle auction returns and nearly tying its best per-claim performance.
The fleet auctions off decommissioned vehicles through Property Room, an online auction service. In addition, DCAS improved the way it tracks collisions. DCAS worked with the city’s Office of Management and Budget to implement these initiatives.
DCAS expects this positive trend to continue in FY-19 as it introduces upgraded telematics and automated collision reconstruction. In March, the agency also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Comptroller to improve data sharing and coordination of claims management.
