The City of Syracuse, N.Y., has appointed a new citywide director of fleet operations. Richard Devesty will be responsible for managing the maintenance and acquisition of all city vehicles and truck equipment.
A former service manager for ABF Freight Systems Inc., Devesty has more than 28 years of experience in LTL (less-than-truckload) freight, logistics, and supply chain management. At ABF, Devesty oversaw planning for all ABF facilities as well as maintenance and repairs of ABF’s equipment.
“Richard brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to this role, and we are excited to have him as part of our team,” said Driscoll Dunham, chief operating officer for the city, in a statement. The fleet operations director will report to Dunham. “Everything from snowplows, fire engines to sanitation trucks, and police vehicles, a fully functional and well-maintained fleet is critical to city operations.”
Devesty will manage the fleet operations program across six city departments: Fire, Water, Public Works, Parks, Engineering, and Police.
His job duties will consist of procurement and administration, inventory, inspections, preventative maintenance, repairs and replacement scheduling, and ensuring sufficiency and safety of fleet and equipment for daily operations.
