The City of Yonkers, N.Y., recently completed $400,000 of clean energy projects, including the purchase of hybrid electric city vehicles and the construction of nine electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, the New York Power Authority announced.

The project, dubbed the “Five Cities Energy Plans," is part of a larger, state-wide effort to increase energy efficiency and clean energy resources in the cities of Yonkers, Albany, Buffalo, Syracuse, and Rochester.

During a public ceremony, public officials showcased a Chevrolet Volt and a model EV charging station.

In total, the Five Cities project has granted $7.6 million in funding to various energy projects that have saved more than $2 million in energy costs; the project has also reduced carbon emissions by 9,880 metric tons, or the equivalent of taking almost 2,100 vehicles off the road.
