Clark County, Nev., commissioners have decided to accept $620,000 in grant funding to purchase 35 hybrid vehicles and 10 electric vehicles for the county fleet, the Las Vegas Sun reported.

The county will receive $385,920 in grant funds under the federal Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement (CMAQ) program to purchase up to 35 hybrid electric vehicles. The county will match 5% of the funds, or up to $20,312, according to documents from the Board of Commissioners meeting. Since CMAQ funds only 43% of the cost of hybrid vehicle, the county must provide an additional $538,494 to purchase the vehicles.

Clark County will also receive a second grant — $234,080 in CMAQ funds for the purchase of 10 plug-in electric vehicles. The county will supply a $12,230 non-federally funded match, according to documents from the Board of Commissioners meeting. CMAQ funds can be used on up to 77% of the cost of an electric vehicle, so the county must provide an additional $73,600 to purchase the vehicles.
