The Elko County (Nev.) Fire Protection District has had to expand its fleet of fire trucks in order to tackle the growing threat of wildfires in northeastern Nevada, according to Tonyne. The district recently took delivery of four Toyne Tailored Apparatus: two Wildland trucks, one Rapid Attack, and one Pumper Tanker.

Two Toyne Wildland apparatus were built to identical specifications. Both trucks are mounted on a Freightliner M2 106 4x4 chassis. To help tackle rough terrain, the apparatus are powered by a Cummins ISL9 350-hp engine and an Allison 3,000 EVS transmission. Toyne equipped the apparatus with a 500-gallon UPF tank and a Hale MBP 750 PTO pump, capable of pumping 750 gallons per minute. These wildland apparatus are specially designed to take on rugged environments.

Elko County’s Toyne Pumper Tanker is mounted on a Freightliner M2 106 two-door chassis. Powered by a Cummins ISL9 350 engine and an Allison 3000 EVS transmission, the pumper tanker is also able to effectively respond to difficult calls. The custom painted body is constructed with stainless steel and bolted onto the chassis. Toyne fitted the apparatus with a 2,000-gallon UPF tank, ICI SL Plus tank gauge, and a Zico hydraulic 2,100-gallon portable tank rack. Water can be pumped at 750 gallons with its Hale MPB 750 PTO pump.

The district’s new Toyne Rapid Attack Skid Unit was built around a Dodge 5500 4x4 chassis, with a 173.4-inch wheelbase. A 304 stainless steel body was installed with customized storage space and Rom Roll-Up Doors. Code 3 LED lighting and Whelen tail light packages make the rapid attack visible when taking calls. Toyne also installed a 20 amp Kussmaul Super Auto-Eject for automatically disconnecting shorelines.

The the Elko County Fire Protection District serves the fourth largest county in the lower 48 states. Elko County’s fire district consists of 16 volunteer fire departments, one 24-hour fire station, 21 volunteer fire department stations, and supporting administrative staff.
