The City of Cape Girardeau, Mo., purchased six new trucks for its Fire Department, including three pumpers, one rescue pumper, and heavy rescue truck, and one 100-foot aerial ladder truck, for a total of $3.8 million, reports the Southeast Missourian. The six vehicles were funded by a voter-approved sales tax increase, and will replace the department's frontline fleet.
Previously, the city kept fire trucks for 25-30 years, and new vehicles were difficult to come by. With this new purchase, it plans to use a 10-year replacement plan. Two of the department's old pumpers will be kept in reserve, and five other vehicles will be sold to volunteer departments nearby.
