The City of New Bedford, Mass., is replacing both of its antiquated "pumpers" with new fire trucks as part of a broad-ranging vehicle replacement plan.
The City Council approved $1.2 million to purchase the two new fire trucks on Oct. 24 under a lease-purchase agreement. This year, the city is purchasing about 12 vehicles for the fire, emergency, and public works departments, reports South Coast Today.
The city will retire the "pumpers" after more than 20 years of service. The city also purchased two SUVs and a rapid response boat for the Fire Department, as well as six plow trucks for blizzards.
Government fleet sales rose from both January and February monthly totals, which were both under 20,000.
