Madison Gas and Electric to Expand EV Charging Network in Dane County
MADISON, WI - Coulomb Technologies and Madison Gas and Electric announced on September 28 plans to install 18 additional ChargePoint Networked Charging Stations for electric vehicles in and around Dane County.
MADISON, WI - Coulomb Technologies and Madison Gas and Electric announced on September 28 plans to install 18 additional ChargePoint Networked Charging Stations for electric vehicles in and around Dane County. The new stations will bring the total number of ChargePoint stations to 24 within the community.
The new Level II (240V/30A) charging station allocation and installation is made possible through a Department of Energy grant to MGE and will be available to the community for the duration of the three-year public demonstration project. Locations for the charging stations are still being determined but are expected to be located in 10 highly trafficked areas within the community. All charging locations will be free and available to the public. Coulomb Technologies' Midwest distributor, Chicago-based Carbon Day Automotive, is partnering with MGE to distribute the stations as part of the project.
"Madison is planning for the widespread adoption of electric vehicles today," said Laura Williams, MGE Market Development Manager. "In order to learn about time of use, length of charging sessions, the amount of electricity used, and how EV charging coincides with home electricity use, we are looking for volunteers to help us collect this data. The data collected will assist us in how we can better serve our customers and plan for EV in our community."
Consumers interested in the program can sign up at the MGE site for more information.
"Coulomb's advanced networking software is the reason why MGE is able to accurately track and monitor usage of EV drivers' activities," said Richard Lowenthal. "We are proud to play a large role in the communities future adoption of alternative fueling vehicles. In the coming months residents of Wisconsin will see these new vehicles on the road and the community will be EV ready."
Coulomb's ChargePoint Network is open to all drivers of plug-in vehicles and all manufacturers of plug-in vehicle charging stations. ChargePoint Network's unique features include:
The ability for the station owner to set fees for use of their stations (including free charging).
The ability for drivers to access stations without a subscription via contact-less credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, AMEX, and Discover).
24/7/365 telephone driver support via a toll free number on all charging stations.
Smart grid ready, with built in utility grade metering, time of use (TOU) pricing and demand response (DR) control.
Multiple smart phone applications (iPhone and Blackberry) to find unoccupied stations and navigate to them.
The lowest operating cost possible due to real-time operational monitoring, alerts, diagnosis, and control of millions of stations.

Read More →Are You Tracking Your Fleet's True Total Cost of Ownership?
Bobit Business Media surveyed 190 fleet professionals and found that while most fleets are tracking costs, fragmented systems and data gaps are keeping true TCO visibility out of reach. With rising pressure to control spend in an increasingly volatile environment, the gap between what fleets think they know and what the data actually shows is wider than you might expect. See how your peers are managing costs today and where the industry still has room to improve.
