KNOXVILLE, TN – To fund the proposed $649 million budget for next year, Knox County officials are looking to save on other county expenses, including fleet vehicles, according to the Arizona Republic.
Commissioners R. Larry Smith and Mike Hammond said they want to take a close look at take-home vehicles to find ways to cut even more. The county's chief administrative officer, Dwight Van de Vate, said the administration is asking for only one new vehicle, a garbage truck for the Parks and Recreation Department, according to the Arizona Republic.
Sheriff Jimmy "J.J." Jones said he cut 28 vehicles from his initial budget request, the exact number Commissioner Mark Harmon has proposed cutting from the existing fleet. The move carves about $756,000 out of the sheriff's office budget, Jones said. Harmon also wants to cut 28 vehicles from general county government.
