Jersey City Cutting Down on Take-Home Cars

Jersey City, N.J., mayor-elect Steve Fulop announced a new policy that restricts take-home vehicles to emergency responders, reducing the take-home fleet by 58 cars, according to The Hudson Reporter.

Jersey City, N.J., mayor-elect Steve Fulop announced a new policy that restricts take-home vehicles to emergency responders, reducing the take-home fleet by 58 cars. Fulop has long rallied against take-home cars for non-emergency personnel, calling it “wasteful spending,” according to The Hudson Reporter.

According to the news source, Fulop had been unsuccessful in implementing this policy in the past partly because council representatives are among those issued municipal cars. Fulop, a councilman, refused a municipal vehicle.

The policy will be effective August 1, one month after Fulop is sworn in.
