JANESVILLE, WI - Janesville's police fleet will soon be full of all-black vehicles as a way to save money, according to WCLO.com.
Half of the city's fleet of squad cars will be replaced this year. While the police department decided to continue using the Chevy Impala as the platform, officers voted to change the color scheme to black, reported WCLO.com.
Deputy Chief, Dan Davis, said Sgt. Todd Kleisner sought approval to allow the patrol division to vote on a new color. The top pick was black and white, but Davis says that would have cost more than a single color, so they settled on all black.
The first finished product debuted May 31 in the city's Memorial Day parade, with the rest of the first nine cars to undergo the change scheduled to be on the street soon. Next year, the second half of the fleet will be replaced with the "new look" squads, reported WCLO.com.
