Hybrid Vehicle Unveiled by U.S. Army at SAE 2005 World Congress
DETROIT – The U.S. Army Tank Automotive Research, Development and Engineering Center's National Automotive Center unveiled the MP Hybrid vehicle platform at the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) 2005 World Congress.
DETROIT – The U.S. Army Tank Automotive Research, Development and Engineering Center's National Automotive Center unveiled the MP Hybrid vehicle platform at the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) 2005 World Congress. The platform was created in conjunction with Quantum Fuel System Technologies Worldwide Inc. and California Motors LLC. The military variant is designed to support a variety of homeland defense, military, and commercial missions. The vehicle was created for non-tactical applications at medium speeds. It includes a series hybrid diesel/electric powertrain. The hybrid will feature a removable 5 KW auxiliary power unit and a ballistic lightweight armor package. A civilian variant will feature a low-cost, high-performance diesel engine. Its main purpose is for campus operations, airport surveillance, and other off-highway activities.
