BOCA RATON, FL – Four new hybrid cars will be added to the Boca Raton Police Services Department, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. The city council approved the department's request for four Toyota Prius sedans. The cars are expected to save the city thousands of dollars in gas a year, making them worth the higher prices and longer waits to get them, according to Assistant Chief Ed Morley, who submitted the request. The hybrids will not be used as pursuit vehicles. Two cars will go to two assistant chiefs, the director of training and the sergeant for investigative training. The hybrids cost about $21,000 a car, only slightly more than the Fords. Morley believes that if the fuel savings are as much as he thinks, the city will be getting more hybrids.
