Howard County Buys Volt, Unveils EV Charging Station

ELLICOTT CITY, MD - Howard County, Md., unveiled its new electric vehicle charging station for public and county fleet use on Nov. 7. County Executive Ken Ulman arrived at the ceremony driving the County's first extended-range electric vehicle, the Chevrolet Volt, according to a release from the county.
The release reported the Volt had been driven 750 miles using only 5.5 gallons of gasoline.

The Volt will be used by inspectors from the Department of Licensing and Inspection (DILP), and the charging station is located at the building where DILP is housed, according to Kevin Enright, director of the Office of Public Information. The County also has two Nissan Leafs that are expected to be delivered by the end of December, he added.
The EV charging station is equipped with five 240V charge outlets for use by County employees and residents free of charge. The County received the charging station through a grant received by BEVI from the Maryland Energy Administration's Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Program, the release stated.
