Charleston County, South Carolina, is working to enhance fleet fleet management through telematics.
To do this, the county is partnering with Geotab to implement a telematics program and use the data to help the county transform traffic management, optimize fuel tax rebates, and enhance safety and emergency response times.
Monitoring and Analyzing Real-Time Data from Fleet Vehicles
Charleston County plans to leverage Geotab's telematics data to study real-time traffic patterns. By applying data-driven approaches, the county aims to optimize routes, reduce gridlock, decrease travel times, and enhance overall traffic flow. These initiatives are designed to benefit fleet operations and reduce city-wide traffic congestion, leading to smoother commutes for residents.
The county will also be measuring and analyzing Power Take-Off (PTO) data in order for the public works fleet manager to optimize vehicle usage and enhance overall performance.
PTO systems are a key component for many Charleston County Public Works vehicles as they power auxiliary equipment such as cranes, spreaders, and hydraulic systems.
Using Data to Improve Service to the County
The county will also be looking at analytics related to fuel consumption and vehicle mileage to help optimize fleet efficiency and reduce operational costs.
The data collected will be used to get insights that aid in planning and decision-making, enabling the county to achieve its sustainability objectives and enhance service delivery for the community.
