The City of Houston is expanding its car-sharing program for its employees, created through a partnership with ZipCar, to a second location. The City began the program, called FleetShare, with shared motor pool vehicles in the Theater District's Tranquility Garage. The City has expanded this program to the City Hall Annex Garage. Vehicles involved in this program include 50 City fleet vehicles, including 25 Nissan LEAF EVs and other types of plug-in hybrid vehicles. Zipcar's FastFleet devices are installed in these City-owned vehicles.
At the City Hall Annex garage, the City had six electric charging stations installed. In addition, the City noted that the expansion is due to a 72-percent increase in the number of participants enrolled, which represents more than 7,000 vehicle reservations.
