The City Council of Houston, Texas, voted to purchase $2 million of rescue equipment, fleet vehicles, and boats, reports the Houston Chronicle. The purchase follows Hurricane Harvey and aims to fix inadequacies in the Fire Department's flood rescue fleet.
The $2 million will go toward six $75,000 flood-capable rescue vehicles and 10 pickup trucks. Rescue boats, evacuation boats, wave runners, and flotation devices will also be funded.
During Hurricane Harvey, about 350 vehicles in the fleet were impacted, with 280 considered a total loss. One of the fleet’s 25 maintenance facilities was inundated with water and is considered a total loss, the fleet told Government Fleet after the hurricane.
