In North Carolina, a heat wave took down nearly half of the City of Fayetteville’s refuse fleet. Last week, 19 of the city’s 44 trash trucks were having mechanical problems, the Fayetteville Observer reported.
Mechanical problems include seals, gaskets, and blades, which expand and increase in pressure with the heat, the deputy city manager told the newspaper.
“Equipment issues with these trucks in such hot and humid conditions as we’ve experienced over the last few weeks are not uncommon,” the city wrote on its Facebook page.
The truck issues are “close to being resolved,” a city spokesperson told Government Fleet this morning.
