Bill Griffiths was named the 2015 Public Sector Fleet Manager of the Year at the Government Fleet Expo & Conference today during The Honors Celebration. Griffiths, who is division chief of Fleet Management Services for Montgomery County, Md., was chosen among three finalists for the award.
A panel of judges consisting of working fleet managers reviews each of the 11 qualified candidates in 10 categories: business plan, technology implementation, productivity, policies, preventive maintenance program, utilization management, replacement program, customer service, fuel management, and safety.
In addition to excelling in these categories, Griffiths led the development and execution of the county’s fleet replacement program, overcoming a six-year, 1,000 vehicle backlog. The fleet was able to do this by leveraging data and has reduced its fleet by 27 vehicles, saving $1 million in capital cost.
Griffiths was a 2013 finalist for the award.
The Montgomery County fleet consists of about 3,600 vehicles. The Public Fleet Manager of the Year award is sponsored by General Motors.
