Grant Programs Offer Southern Calif. Technicians Free Training
CERRITOS, CA – Class topics for grant-funded training include heavy-duty Cummins engines, CNG safety inspection and certification, and how to respond safely to accidents involving alternative fuels.
CERRITOS, CA – The Advanced Transportation Technology and Energy program (ATTE) at Cerritos College in California is offering free, grant-funded training for Southern California fleet technicians. Grant funding pays for the full cost of these classes unless otherwise indicated.
The program offers a three-day interactive training course April 3-5 on a Cummins 15L ISX-G natural gas-fueled heavy-duty engine using Cummins/Westport diagnostic software. This class provides a review of the inputs, actuators, and processing of the electronic engine management system in the PACCAR Cummins 15L ISX-G engine. To be eligible for the grant, technicians must be approved under the ETP (AB118) program. Technicians who complete the program receive a Long Beach City College certificate of completion.
The ATTE also offers a two-day class May 9-10 on compressed natural gas (CNG) cylinder safety inspection and certification. A CSA certification exam is available for an additional fee not covered by the grant.
In addition, the program offers three technician training sessions on Cummins 8.9L natural gas fueled heavy-duty engine using INSITE diagnostic software. Classes are taught throughout March, April, and May.
These classes will be taught at the Long Beach City College.
Finally, a class is offered on how to safety respond to accidents involving alternative fuels. The two-day classes are offered in April, May, and June, and participants are asked to pay a small material fee. This class will be taught at Rio Hondo College in Whittier.
