Gov. Rell Issues Order Reducing Connecticut State Fleet

HARTFORD, CT - Gov. M. Jodi Rell has issued an executive order cutting Connecticut's fleet of state cars and trucks by 20 percent, according to Newsday.
It's part of an effort to reduce the state's growing budget deficit. She says it was the public's idea to pare the fleet, which includes more than 4,300 vehicles.
Rell is ordering the Department of Administrative Services to complete an audit by July 1 of all state-owned passenger vehicles—including those at state colleges and universities—and reduce the list by 20 percent.
Meanwhile, Rell's agency commissioners will no longer have state cars, except for law enforcement officials. Only state employees who drive 700 miles or more monthly will get a state car, and those who speed can lose the vehicles.
