WILLOWS, CA - By Oct. 2, the Glenn County Board of Supervisors must choose between cutting jobs, dipping deep into reserves, or some kind of combination to balance a $2.3 million budget deficit, according to Willows Journal.
To avoid layoffs, the board is considering dipping into the county's reserve funds, but is not committing to a percentage. Finance Director Don Santoro said 10 percent is the most he would take, but other county officials have suggested 20 percent if it means saving jobs this year, reported the Journal.
The county has approximately $450,000 in its fleet reserve account for general reserve spending, $900,000 in a hospital reserve account, and $750,000 in its general fund reserve.
However, some of the hospital reserve money is earmarked for expenses related to health services for the county jail, which must pay Glenn Medical Center about $180,000 this year. The board also approved a $14,000 interest earnings withdrawal Sept. 15, so the med center can develop expansion plans on its property, the Journal reported.
The Journal estimated up to 25 employee vacancies may be made countywide if the board adopts this budget.
