The Gwinnett County, Georgia, Fire & Emergency Services department will spend $7.8 million on new safety vehicles. The Board of Commissioners recently approved spending about $6 million on four new aerial ladder trucks for the department, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The contract went to Sutphen Corp, which manufactured the trucks that will be replaced with the new ones, according to the agenda from a recent Board of Commissioners meeting. The trucks will be Sutphen Heavy Duty SP 95 Midmount Aerial Platforms. Firefighter Lt. Ryan McGiboney told Government Fleet that the ladder trucks have an estimated 19 to 21-month build time, so the county is ordering the new trucks anticipating that.

Fire Chief Russell Knick told commissioners that the trucks have 95-foot ladders. The fleet currently has 12 of these trucks.

Commissioners also recently approved $1.8 million to remount eight ambulance bodies on new chassis. The remounts will come from a contract with Life Line Emergency Vehicles. McGiboney said the remount agreement provides for the reuse of the patient compartment "box," since they can be remounted on a new chassis.
