Henry County, Ga., will be upgrading its tractor fleet after citizens complained about insufficient mowing in the right of way. The Board of Commissioners approved the purchase of eight tractors and eight rotary cutters for more than $600,000.
The county receives several calls daily about the need to mow the grass in the right of way, a difficult task to do more than four times a year with an aged fleet, according to Board of Commissioners meeting information. Its tractor fleet is aged; two are 33 years old and another two are 29 years old, the county’s Public Works director told commissioners.
The DOT will purchase two Bengal 5100M tractors, two 50-inch rotary cutters, six John Deere 4090E utility tractors, and six John Deere R10 flex rotary cutters using a state contract. These new tractors will allow the county to replace its oldest ones and put a couple in reserve.
