Fort Wayne Police Department Boosts Fleet Numbers
FORT WAYNE, IN – Forty-three new Chevrolet Impalas will be added to the Fort Wayne Police Department's fleet this year.
FORT WAYNE, IN – Forty-three new Chevrolet Impalas will be added to the Fort Wayne Police Department's fleet this year, reported the Fort Wayne News-Sentinel newspaper. Nine of the vehicles will go to officers newly eligible for take-home cars, with the remaining 34 replacing 1995-97 models. Of 420 officers in the department, all but 35 have take-home vehi-cles, according to the News-Sentinel. Officers have to be on the police force two years before becoming eligible for a take-home car. The average life span of a Fort Wayne police car is seven years, compared with pool cars, which average three years.
