The Monroe County, Florida, Fleet Management Department, which serves the Florida Keys, has obtained three ASE Blue Seal of Excellence certifications from the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE). The county earned the certifications for each of its three shops: the Upper Keys (Plantation Key), the Middle Keys (Marathon), and the Lower Keys (Rockland Key).

About the Certifications

To become a Blue Seal of Excellence shop, at least 75% of technicians performing diagnostics and repairs in a shop must be ASE certified, and each area of service offered in the shop must be covered by at least one ASE certified technician. For Monroe County’s fleet team, the total certification percentage is 87%. Monroe County’s Fleet Management Department has been working on its Blue Seal of Excellence Certifications for the past year and a half, since Daryl Greenlee stepped in as fleet director. The fleet management team now has 15 technicians holding a total of 122 ASE certifications, with 11 Master Certifications, Greenlee explained.

"We have been working diligently to change the culture of our fleet with both our clients and the fleet team. We have been recognized as one of Government Fleet magazine’s Notable Fleets for 2022 in the Leading Fleets. What this indicates to us is we have buy-in from the technicians. They believe they are good, and fleet is worth investing their time and talents in. It doesn’t get much better than that!” Greenlee said.

There are nearly 1,500 automotive repair shops with the ASE Blue Seal of Excellence program. Of that, there are approximately 175 government automotive repair shops, citing data from ASE.
