Public agency contracts with a Florida towing company are being canceled after a class-action lawsuit against the City of Sweetwater claimed that more than 100 vehicles were seized, towed, and auctioned after motorists were detained on trumped-up charges, according to the Miami Herald.

The City of South Miami became the latest agency to cancel its contract with Southland The Towing Company. The cities of Sweetwater and Doral, as well as the Miccosukee Tribe, previously canceled their contracts, CBS Miami reported.

Manny Marono, the former Sweetwater mayor who was convicted in federal court last month of accepting kickbacks, is suspected of being a silent partner in the towing company. He once owned Southland The Towing Company, which had a no-bid, verbal agreement with Sweetwater.
