Polk County, Fla., will spend about $300,000 due to a structural flaw on all of its fire trucks. Commissioners voted to fix a loose suspension on all 12 of the county's trucks, at a cost of about $25,000 per truck, reports The Ledger.
The trucks, from Ferrara Fire Apparatus, range from 10-12 years old and, based on the county's replacement cycle, are expected to continue operating for five to 10 years. According to county documents, four fire trucks are currently inoperable and eight will need to be removed from service in the near future. The $300,000 will be spent on retrofitting the trucks with conventional axles to remain in service.
