FARMINGTON HILLS, MI – Over the next year, the City of Farmington Hills will test a Mercedes-Benz fuel-cell car, the F-Cell, in its fleet, according to the Detroit Free Press. DaimlerChrysler now has more than 100 fuel-cell vehicles being testing worldwide; its first fuel-cell vehicle was tested by UPS in 2004. Inergy Automotive Systems and Wayne State University are also currently testing the vehicles. The City of Farmington Hills was a leading candidate for the DaimlerChrysler F-Cell because there are several hydrogen stations nearby. While the vehicle is in use, data will be automatically uploaded to DaimlerChrysler. By 2012, DaimlerChrysler hopes to put a fuel-cell vehicle on the market by 2012, according to the report.
