The Dublin Public Works department has earned accreditation through the American Public Works Association (APWA). This marks the first accreditation for the entire department, which includes: Engineering, Facilities Management, Fleet Management, and Streets & Utilities Operations.

The accreditation shows that Dublin meets or exceeds all APWA standards, which measure things like safety, efficiency, and performance.

“This is a huge and important accomplishment for our department. It provides us with the tools to document, evaluate, and improve our operations to better meet the needs of the public,” said Megan O’Callaghan, Dublin Public Works Director.

Also, during the accreditation process the APWA identified two City of Dublin programs as “model practices.” Evaluators praised the city's stretching program and the Facilities division's custodial work plan and efficiency analysis. APWA will be incorporating these model practices into its APWA Best Management Practices Manual for other public entities around the country to follow.

Dublin is one of only 107 agencies in the nation to achieve APWA accreditation. The designation lasts four years.

The divisions of Fleet and Streets & Utilities had previously earned accreditation. This is the first time Engineering and Facilities Management have been through the accreditation process.
