Dodge Chargers Will Be Added to Police Fleet for Long Beach, N.Y.

LONG BEACH, NY – The Long Beach Police Department received approval from the City Council to buy five Dodge Charger police cruisers under New York’s state’s contract. The new cruisers will replace the five most decrepit Ford Crown Victorias currently in use.
The Dodge Charger police cruisers, which were publicly endorsed by the New York City Police Department last year, will cost the city about $27,768 per car, and include lights, sirens, cages and plastic rear seats, which usually cost extra to install.
The typical Long Beach police cruiser lasts about three years. Of the 11 cars currently in the department’s patrol rotation, seven have well over 100,000 miles on them, and an eighth is sitting at more than 99,000. The city will pay for the cars out of a combination of funding lines totaling $138,840.90.
