The County of Hawaii has begun rolling out new vehicles to replace its high-mileage fleet with 23 initial light-duty vehicles purchased at the tail end of the fiscal year that ended June 30.
The county has been ramping up purchasing following several lean years when the county added two vehicles in the 2012-13 year and 13 vehicles during the 2011-12 year, reports West Hawaii Today.
The county is purchasing cars, vans, pickups and SUVs, but has stopped short of purchasing larger dumper pickups used by the Highways Division. The county now maintains 614 vehicles.
Government fleet sales rose from both January and February monthly totals, which were both under 20,000.
