ROCKLAND COUNTY, NY – Rockland County approved a new policy that requires 60 employees to justify why they need their county vehicle 24 hours a day, according to the Journal News. The policy would also bar employees who live outside Rockland from taking county cars home. Rockland taxpayers pay for county-operated vehicles, which includes gas, maintenance, and insurance. County Executive C. Scott Vanderhoef said he wants to cut down the number of vehicles in the fleet and possibly shed some of the county's SUVs. Rockland County has 622 vehicles, including snowplows, dump trucks, passenger vans, buses, cars, and SUVs.
