Connecticut Pilots GPS on Select Fleet Vehicles

WATERBURY, CT - The State of Connecticut’s Department of Children and Families will be piloting GPS on eight to 10 of its fleet vehicles. Sprint, the vendor on the state contract, will provide the GPS services.

WATERBURY, CT - The State of Connecticut’s Department of Children and Families will be piloting GPS on eight to 10 of its fleet vehicles. According to department spokesperson Gary Kleeblatt, the department proposed the use of GPS on its vehicles last year, and installation is expected to be completed in August.

“The department initiated [this] as a way to maximize the efficiency of … resources,” Kleeblatt said.

Sprint, the vendor on the state contract, will provide the GPS services. The company will handle installation, and the fiscal services staff will be reviewing the information, according to Kleeblatt. The pilot project is expected to last between 30-60 days. The cost for the device and installation for each vehicle is less than $300, and the monthly fee is approximately $30. Installation is expected to be completed this month.
