Colo. County Approves Greening Mandate
All new Boulder County sedans will be electric starting in 2020. The same rule goes into effect for SUVs starting in 2025, and pickup trucks starting in 2030.

Commissioners in Boulder County, Colo., approved a resolution to purchase electric light-duty vehicles. Under this resolution, all new county sedans will be electric starting in 2020, all new SUVs will be electric starting in 2025, and all new pickup trucks will be electric by 2030.
The resolution notes that the county plans to transition to zero-emission medium- and heavy-duty vehicles and off-road equipment as they become available in the state.
“We have been working to electrify our county fleet because it saves taxpayer money over the life of the vehicle. Electric vehicles require less maintenance, use less fuel, and are better for the environment,” said George Gerstle, transportation director, in a statement. “As more vehicle models become available, we will be moving towards electrifying our pickup trucks, vans, and heavier equipment. We’ll also be advocating that RTD and other transportation providers, like Lyft and Uber, use electric vehicles.”
Under this resolution, the county will also work with the community to transition 30% of all residential, business, and municipal vehicles within the county to zero emissions by 2030.
