Clean Cities Names Fresno City Fleet of the Year

PALM SPRINGS, CA – The 2005 Clean Cities National Partner Award winner of the City Fleet of the Year was the city of Fresno, Calif., which was recognized at the Clean Cities Conference in Palm Springs. The city of Fresno, Calif., has set a high standard for reducing emissions from its fleet, according to Clean Cities. The city operates 69 refuse trucks on liquefied natural gas (LNG), 27 compressed natural gas (CNG) transit buses, five CNG-powered trolley buses, and numerous other alternative fuel vehicles. A 12,000-gallon capacity public access LNG station was installed, and has a high-capacity public access CNG station under construction. In 2004, the city displaced more than 838,000 gallons of diesel fuel. The city also started a program that allows zero-emission vehicles, super-ultra-low emission vehicles, and low-emission vehicles to park free in Fresno garages and at parking meters.
