NEW HAVEN, CT - The City of New Haven is considering car sharing as a replacement for low-use City pool vehicles. The City currently operates a fleet of 25 pool cars used by municipal employees for official business, according to the New Haven Independent.
Ben Martinez, lead mechanic with the Department of Public Works, told the Independent that the pool cars are rarely driven. At the rate driven, the cars are more expensive than they're worth, City officials said.
The City has yet to approach Zipcar, but it hopes to have a deal with the car-sharing company in three months. The initial plan will be to sell 10 vehicles and install five Zipcars. If things go well, the City may sell all 25 pool vehicles and replace them with exclusively Zipcars, a representative told the news source.
