AURORA, CO – The City of Aurora’s police department will receive 34 Chevrolet Caprice PPV patrol cars by the end of the year, according to a release from the department.

This delivery will replace 34 Crown Victoria patrol cars in the fleet. In 2012, the City’s police department said it will receive another 33 Caprice PPVs. Aurora hasn’t replaced any patrol cars since 2008 due to budget cuts. The City said it’s paying $35,500 per vehicle, including decals and upfitting.

“We are very excited about the roll out of these new cars and what they have to offer in the way of efficiency and safety for our police officers,” said Michelle Wolfe, Deputy City Manager. “Although we continue to face budget challenges, it was essential we replace some of our cars now.”

According to the City, the vehicles are high mileage units and maintenance costs have been going up.

Some of the benefits the City said it will see from the vehicles are improved fuel economy, for example the ability of the Caprice to run on four cylinders rather than six while idling.

The City’s police department has a total of 160 vehicles.
