City Eliminates 15 Jobs — 20% in Fleet Services
MARSHALL, TX - The City of Marshall has decided to cut 12 full-time positions and three part-time positions as it enters its fiscal year on Oct. 1. Three full-time positions will be from the city's fleet services department.
MARSHALL, TX - The City of Marshall has decided to cut 12 full-time positions and three part-time positions as it enters its fiscal year on Oct. 1, said City Manager Frank Johnson. Three full-time positions will be from the city's fleet services department, according to the Marshall News Messenger.
The job cuts are expected to save the city $350,000 as it forms its 2011 budget facing a $1 million shortfall.
Johnson said the fleet services positions are currently held by two mechanics and a manager. These services will now be outsourced.
In addition, the city will not be funding equipment requests from departments in 2011 except for a fire truck and maintaining an agreement for buying police vehicles at deep discounts, according to the news source.
