City Council Presses Milwaukee Dept. of Public Works to Reduce Fleet
MILWAUKEE, WI – A Milwaukee Common Council committee voted to give the Department of Public Works (DPW) officials 30 days to decide how to cut the fleet, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
MILWAUKEE, WI – A Milwaukee Common Council committee voted to give the Department of Public Works (DPW) officials 30 days to decide how to cut the fleet, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Aldermen chastised DPW officials and praised Dan Blosser, who last week was fired as fleet manager days after submitting a report that called for getting rid of underused vehicles to save money. DPW officials say Blosser's firing was not related to the report, and is supported by the Department of Employee Relations and the city attorney's office. Several aldermen said Blosser's report should become the basis for reducing the size of the city's fleet. Ald. Jim Bohl questioned the department's purchases, including a marble countertop in a conference room and a plasma TV. Blosser's report focused on 121 vehicles, most assigned to DPW managers, that rarely left the city parking structure on three days they were checked. Blosser submitted the report on a Friday. On the following Monday, he was fired by Venu Gupta, the city's director of buildings and fleet. Blosser was still within his probationary period.
