The City of Cincinnati's mayor and city manager have proposed a 2016 fiscal-year budget that includes an additional $91 million for road repair, maintenance, and new fleet vehicles, reports the Cincinnati Business Courier.

The $1-billion budget would increase the city's capital budget to $464 million from $373 million. The fleet portion of the upgrade would address funding shortfalls on the city's vehicle fleet since 2001. Since that time, city funding has fallen short for maintenance of police cars, fire trucks, ambulances, and snow plows. The funded ratio has dropped from about 70 percent in 2003 to around 30 percent in fiscal-year 2015.

The spending increase to modernize the city's fleet is expected to result in as much as $3 million in savings per year in reduced maintenance and fuel costs.
