Caltrans to Cut Fleet Pollution 20% by 2020
Caltrans has set a goal to reduce emissions caused by its operations, including its fleet, by 20% during the decade ending in 2020, the state agency has announced.

Caltrans has set a goal to reduce emissions caused by its operations, including its fleet, by 20% during the decade ending in 2020, the state agency has announced.
The goal came in the transportation agency's Strategic Management Plan: 2015-2020, which was released April 16.
Caltrans has set the goal of reducing air pollution caused by its "internal operational pollutants" by 15% by the end of 2015 and 20% by the end of 2020 from 2010 levels, according to the plan. The reductions line up with goals set in a 2012 executive order from Gov. Jerry Brown.
The strategic plan lays out broad-based operating goals for Caltrans rather than focusing narrowly on fleet operations.
Caltrans is using telematics to reduce fuel use, which would play into the agency's emissions-reduction goal. The agency began equipping its fleet of 7,500 sedans, trucks, snowplows, and portable signs in late 2014.
