David Worthington
David Worthington, previously fleet manager for Sonoma County, Calif., is the new manager of fleet and construction support for the East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) in Oakland, Calif. EBMUD provides water and sewage treatment services for an area of approximately 331 square miles in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Worthington joined the Sonoma County fleet in 2008 as its assistant fleet manager and became fleet manager in 2013. Prior to this, he came from a private sector career of more than 14 years in positions of management in automotive- and truck-related industries.
The position responsibilities include organizing and directing a district-wide fleet management program including equipment acquisition, program financing, usage, fueling, and credit card activity; managing scheduling, dispatching, and the servicing of construction equipment, trucks, automobiles, and small engines; and managing centralized construction and equipment support programs and staffing.
The fleet consists of 1,266 vehicles and pieces of equipment. There are 69 team members in administration, supervision, and technically skilled positions.
Worthington’s short-term goals and projects at EBMUD include expanding the telematics program, improving operations to reduce the current backlog of work, and streamlining processes to reduce the administrative load.
