The City of Lompoc, Calif., unveiled its newly decorated refuse trucks — with murals designed by residents. The city invited residents to submit artwork for its 2017 Mobile Mural Contest, with the theme “Public Works Connects Us.”
Dirk Ishiwata, facilities, fleet and park maintenance manager, spearheaded the mobile mural idea and contest along with Jennifer Johnson, former office staff assistant for fleet and facilities.
City staff selected eight pieces of artwork to display on the sides of its four new refuse trucks. Winners ranged from a kindergarten class to residents aged 15 to 20.
Government fleet sales rose from both January and February monthly totals, which were both under 20,000.
