Vehicle modifier Blossman Services, Inc. (BSI) is developing a bi-fuel propane autogas Ford Police Interceptor Utility model that will be available to law enforcement agencies in the spring.
The bi-fuel system conversion on the Interceptor requires no intake manifold drilling, cutting, or splicing of wiring. The conversion kit will offer an additional 21 gallons of useable fuel without comprising the vehicle's safety or operational benefits, according to a release from Alliance AutoGas. The propane autgas fuel tank will be mounted in the cargo area near the back seat.
Blossman must still achieve certification from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to produce the bi-fuel Ford P.I. Utility. Blossman already produces similar propane autogas models of the Dodge Charger, Chevrolet Tahoe, Ford Crown Victoria, and F-150 for law enforcement agencies.
The vehicle retains its manufacturer's warranty, and BSI offers an additional 5-year, 100,000-mile warranty on the conversion system.
The company is also "strongly considering" producing a propane autogas version of the Ford Police Interceptor sedan, said Stephen Holland, BSI's director of engineering.
"Once we have finished the Ford P.I. Utility, the majority of what the sedan needs will have been learned- the engines are very similar," Holland told Government Fleet. "Sales interest in the field will determine for BSI when the sedan certification process will begin."
Alliance AutoGas, which is managed by Blossman Gas, Inc., is a group of more than 100 propane marketers and conversion centers in North America.
